Looking to fly late-model Cessna aircraft at rates well below what you’ve paid for rentals? Here’s some more information:
The Schaumburg Flying Club NFP is a not-for-profit organization made up of pilots who own and operate two late-model Cessna aircraft. We’re a group of active pilots. We fly for vacation, business, earning advanced ratings, or just a hamburger. We’re committed to keeping a safe fleet that’s affordable to fly.
What should I know before I join?
If you're interested in the details of club membership, you’re encouraged to read our club bylaws. If you have difficulty with the PDF version of the bylaws, please contact a board member listed below to receive a copy in a different format.
Financial information, our insurance policy, and maintenance logs are also available at any of our monthly meetings. Meetings are held at the Schaumburg Airport on the 2nd Thursday of each month at 7:30PM. We encourage prospective members to attend our monthly meetings.
Are there any minimum time requirements to join?
We are actively looking for new members who have at least a Private Pilot's Certificate. There are no minimums but we will have you go with a club approved instructor to demonstrate that you know what you're doing. You don't need to have a high-performance endorsement before joining, but you'll need one before flying the 182 solo.
Billing
is handled via the Schedulemaster system, and payments can be sent to the
club’s P.O. box or made in person at meetings.
How do I join?
To join the club, please fill out an application, which can be found here. For insurance purposes, we will also need a copy of your pilot’s certificate, medical certificate, the last page of your logbook, and a copy of your high performance endorsement if you already have one.
You’re strongly encouraged to attend a club meeting prior to joining. Bring the information above, along with your equity investment of $3,500. This can also be mailed to:
Schaumburg Flying Club
P.O. Box 1156
Palatine, IL 60078
Meetings
are held at the Schaumburg Airport on the 2nd Thursday of each month
at 7:30PM. We meet in the meeting room in the basement, but you can usually
find some of us in the restaurant upstairs before and/or after the meetings.
What about Renter's Insurance?
Members
are “named insured” – you’re fully covered when flying
club aircraft.
I'm a CFI. Can I instruct in the club aircraft?
The
club is not for profit and is not in the business of providing instruction.
Since our members can hire any CFI they want for their own instruction, members
could hire CFI's who happen to be members. Members who are CFI's can not,
however, teach non-members in the club aircraft. Club insurance does not cover
persons acting as a CFI.
Can I review the bylaws?
Sure.
We have them online here.
OK, I'm a member. How do I get a key
and start scheduling the airplane?
Once
our club treasurer has received your check and required documents, we will
provide keys to the club’s aircraft. A user ID and password will also be
provided for our 24/7 scheduling system at www.schedulemaster.com.
How do I start flying? What’s the
check-out process?
Depending on your experience, our insurance requires either 5 or 10 hours in type prior to solo. You can accumulate this time with an instructor in our aircraft after joining the club. You can also use the club aircraft to obtain a high performance endorsement if you do not yet have one.
Due to liability concerns and insurance limitations, the Club cannot provide instructors. However, the following instructors have worked with our Club members before:
If
you elect to use a different instructor, please discuss your choice with a member of the board before flying with them. Once you have flown with
any of these instructors and have been signed off, please schedule a flight
with Norb Paprocki or Jeff Puglielli. This flight time can be used to answer
any questions you might have about the club and it will give one of the
club's board members an opportunity to discuss GPS usage, mixture
management, and club rules and regulations.
I got checked out. How do I stay current?
You
must fly either of our aircraft every sixty days to remain current. To fly at
night, you must have flown either aircraft at night within the past 60 days.
From an avionics perspective, you can try to stay current with the KLN-89B GPS
by reading the manual here.
You can find the KAP140 autopilot manual here.
